Theres no “rule of thumb” that states your website needs a refresh after 2.5 years, however there are numerous factors that will determine when is a good time.

The usual reasons for choosing a site are:

  • Updated Branding
  • New Services
  • Change of Management
  • Website has stopped working

However, whilst the above are normally enough to warrant a new website, there are other factors to take into account that many forget.

Many websites that have been custom built or had modules and plugins added will reach a point where technologies such as browsers and operating systems change, leaving you with elements of your site that don’t work or are unsupported.

From a marketing point of view, whilst its good you have managed to reach a certain ranking, it helps to keep content fresh for searches plus having a site that looks contemporary and enticing is a reflection of your business and can in some cases be the first impression that someone has of you.

Currently there are more and more businesses deciding to work remotely or save money by not having swanky offices and rightly so. This also has led to the highest number of online searches both during and since Covid-19, as many now research suitable companies online and judge by what they see.

So the truth is no, there is no definite expiry time for your website, but as more and more are searching online, can you afford to lose clients by not keeping your website looking modern and engaging!
